Why Technology Leaders Value Smaller, More Candid Conversations

Technology leaders do not necessarily need another event. Their calendars are already filled with conferences, panels, keynotes, and networking opportunities.

What they often need is a room where they can have the conversations they cannot have anywhere else.

That was the idea behind a recent CTO Insights gathering hosted by Aztia at the NextPath Workforce Solutions office in Tampa. Led by Hunter DuMolin, the event brought local technology leaders together for an intimate, candid conversation centered on shared experiences, real challenges, and peer-to-peer learning.

There were no formal presentations, sales pitches, or crowded agendas. Instead, attendees had the opportunity to ask honest questions, exchange perspectives, and learn from leaders navigating many of the same pressures.

A Different Kind of Leadership Gathering

In a traditional conference setting, conversations often stay at a high level. Speakers cover several broad topics, attendees take notes, and meaningful questions may be limited by time.

A smaller gathering creates room to go deeper.

With fewer people at the table, leaders can spend meaningful time exploring one or two real challenges instead of briefly touching on ten different topics. The conversation becomes more practical, personal, and relevant.

Leaders can ask the questions that are often most valuable:

How did you handle this?

What would you do differently?

Did it actually work?

These questions open the door to the lessons that are not always included in a presentation or case study.

The Value of Peer-to-Peer Problem Solving

Technology leaders may work in different industries or organizations, but many are facing similar challenges. Each person enters the room with a different set of experiences, successes, and lessons learned.

That creates a powerful opportunity for peer-to-peer problem solving.

One leader may have already worked through the exact issue another is currently facing. By sharing what worked, what did not, and what they would approach differently, participants can leave with practical ideas they can apply within their own organizations.

Just as importantly, these conversations remind leaders that they are not navigating these challenges alone. Hearing other technology executives say, “We are dealing with the same thing,” can provide valuable perspective and reassurance.

Conversations Without a Sales Pitch

Trust is what allows these discussions to become meaningful.

When an event is not centered on selling, leaders can be more open about what they are experiencing. They can move beyond polished talking points and discuss the realities of technology leadership, including the ideas they are considering, the obstacles they have encountered, and the questions they have not answered yet.

For a few hours, they can take off the “executive hat” and have honest conversations with people who understand the responsibility and complexity of their roles.

Relationships That Continue Beyond the Event

The value of a leadership gathering does not always end when the conversation does.

Often, the real return comes weeks or months later when one attendee reaches out to another and says, “You mentioned your organization was dealing with this. Can I pick your brain?”

Those follow-up conversations can lead to new ideas, stronger professional relationships, and an ongoing network of trusted peers.

That is what CTO Insights is designed to create: not simply another technology event, but a trusted space where leaders can speak candidly, learn from one another, and build relationships that continue long after they leave the room.

We appreciate Aztia, Hunter DuMolin, and each of the technology leaders who joined us in Tampa and contributed to the conversation. We look forward to continuing to create opportunities for our technology community to connect, share, and learn together.
